A light routine that survives real life

If dashboards only open during panic, they cannot teach baselines. Stack tiny habits: two-minute Monday scan, monthly backup drill, quarterly cable audit.

Reality check

Monitoring does not replace backups—it tells you when to rehearse restores. Keep offline copies; ransomware and toddler spills ignore SMART entirely.

  • If an alert wakes you, your first action is still “are restores tested?”—not “buy the first replacement in stock.”
  • Share baselines with housemates or coworkers so vacation does not mean silent disks.
  • When in doubt, log screenshots before changing cables—order of operations matters in support threads.
